MAIDEN TO BETHLEHEM

A maiden came to Bethlehem,
the Son of God her child to be;
of Israel the chosen one:
Hail, Mary, full of grace.

The child was born in Bethlehem;
"Emmanuel," Isaiah said:
the Word made flesh in Mary's womb -
God's promise was fulfilled.

Whilst shepherds watched near Bethlehem,
the darkness brightened, angels sang:
their people's waiting now was o'er,
Messiah here was born.

And wise men came from lands afar,
to seek the one whose star shone bright;
they brought the homage of the world,
in gold and myrrh and prayer.

St. Joseph was of David's line,
of Jesse's tree and Judah's clan;
through him the story can be told:
a babe in Bethlehem.
